Why do you want to learn a language?

Post an answer of fifty words or fewer here and the author of the answer I like best will win a copy of Conquering Babel.

The competition closes on 15th June 2012.

(Please note that the deadline for entries has been extended.)

  1. Having fallen in love with a Swede and chosen to live in Sweden I have no choice but to surrender completely and learn Swedish. It will only benefit me to know the language of my new country.

  2. I want to be able to speak with my new friends from around the world that I’ve met through an international travel group and laugh about the silly differences we have in language. I want to order cava in Barcelona and help the Spanish-speaking people we serve at work.

  3. Euge

I’ve moved to Germany for a new job, and I want to be able to communicate better with people inside and outside the office. My main long-term goal is to be able to participate in meetings and produce work documents “auf Deutsch”. My long-term stretch goals are to get an insight into German culture and to understand the German soul. 🙂
